Conventions
In your experience how has your understanding of conventions developed through creating your productions?
At AS I created a film opening called 'On Track', it was important that we made the film opening intriguing and striking in order to get the audience to want to watch the actual film.
Genre is the style of the film. the genre of our film opening was important because we wanted to do something which was fun and had a good story behind it. We chose the genre of sport, this was because as a group we all liked sports and we also felt that it would widen our target audience due to sports being a big and popular thing. It is important to have a good genre as it allows your film to be easily recognized and understood by the audience, this is because they should be able to see straight away what the film is about and based on. To create our film opening, it was vital that we did a lot of research on how they are made and also what goes into them. We researched similar films, so we looked at other sports films such as 'Fast Girls' we looked at their film opening and what they included to lure their audience in, we also looked at the characters and tried to perform in the same way that they did. It was also important to create an enigma code- this is something you introduce into your film opening in order to get people to want to see more, for example in our film opening we tried to create lots of questions to be asked by the audience- such as what are they are they training for? why are they so different? we felt that this would help to keep our audience a lot more interested and also it would mean that they would want to watch the real film. I feel that our film opening subverted against conventions, this is because I feel that it is something which the audience wouldn't expect this is because it is clear that one of the characters has a lot more and the better training opportunities and it is also clear that they don't like each other due to their facials. We also included titles in the film opening, this was one of our first tasks where we used titles and we felt that it really made our film opening look professional and it also matched the theme we had going on which was sports. We introduced the characters by showing their daily routines, we did this so that the audience got a good idea of what the characters were like. We contrasted the settings well by making sure that it was clear of the difference between them, such as the running track compared to the muddy field which everyone was able to access.
At A2 we created a music video. The genre of our music video was important to choose, this was because we didn't want to create something which is the same as everyone else, this is why we chose to do the genre of country but we did add a little bit of pop into it, this was because we wanted to allow a wide target audience. To ensure we included all of the correct things into our music video, we had to do a lot of research, we looked at similar artists to see what they are like. Little Mix were our main influence, we felt that they we were similar to the characters of the girls. We also looked at the girl band Fifth Harmony, again we looked at their music video's, social media's, websites and albums and this gave us a feel of what we needed to produce. We developed our knowledge from our film opening and put this into our music video. We were able to do a lot more effects on premiere which enabled us to make our music video look a lot more professional, as we weren't just using boring transitions from shot to shot. We also needed a lot more shots for our music video so this meant that we had to spend a lot more time getting the footage and then also uploading and editing it onto Premiere.
